While the OnePlus 8T doesn’t feature a major specification upgrade compared to other devices on the 8-Series, it does have everything on offer that was fantastic about those phones. With the T series, the manufacturer has always tweaked a few small elements in its flagships, and they did the same in the case of the OnePlus 8T. The handset comes with a larger battery, improved screen tech, and a tweaked camera set up to make sure it has enough on offer to differentiate it from the older models. Let’s explore what else is there in our OnePlus 8T review.
Design
The device comes with a glass rear, featuring Gorilla Glass protection, and a nice metal frame. It gives a premium feel for sure but may not be up to the mark with other top-of-the-line devices from the major brands around.
At its back, the phone features a slight camera bump towards the top-left corner to host the rear camera and flash. Previously, it was positioned in the top-center, but the manufacturer says they’ve moved it to incorporate new cooling tech into this device.
At the bottom, you can find the SIM tray and the USB-C port. There’s also a single speaker to accompany them. You can find the volume rocker on the left side, whereas the silence slider and the unlock button are placed on the right. The phone also features an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Display
The OnePlus 8T boasts a big, bright 6.55” AMOLED display that comes with a minimal bezel around it on the outside. It’s a good screen with 2400x1080 screen resolution and 402ppi pixel density. That certainly makes this screen a perfect pick for watching videos and movies with beautifully reproduced colors. Its 120Hz refresh rate makes it at par with the display in most top-end devices available today. With this increased refresh rate, the screen looks pretty smooth as you scroll through pages and play your favorite games.
Camera
The camera is one of the key highlights of this device, and it features four different shooters at its back. The main camera is a 48MP shooter with an f/1.7 aperture. It features both electronic and optical image stabilization. Besides, there’s a 16mp ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 5mp Macro camera, and a 2mp monochrome lens. The monochrome lens isn’t there to capture photos, though. In fact, it helps assist with lighting when capturing black-and-white photos.
Overall, the main camera performs well in settings where good lighting is available. However, it struggles a bit in low-light settings. Still, you don’t lose detail and the images look good, and there is enough color too.
On the front, you can find a 16mp camera for Selfies. It’s the same that featured in the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. It produces sharper images and does a fine job.
Performance
The handset features a Snapdragon 865 chipset, the same that comes in the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro devices. So, you can expect similar performance results too. It is one of the most powerful processor chips and makes the device snappy at everything it does. Besides, it features 12GB of RAM as well to allow it to breeze through everyday tasks. It will impress you with its gaming performance too. The visuals look great, and the device doesn’t lag at all.
Battery Life
The device comes with a 4500mAh battery packed inside, and it can last through an entire day without any trouble. In fact, you might even have some of it left at the end of the day.
