Huawei P20 Plus Review – A Close Match To Huawei P20 Pro But Still Behind

Huawei has a history of bringing some great phones to the market, offering a perfect combination of style and function. The P20 series phones released in 2018 also stood up to the company’s ritual and were praised for their great capabilities. Especially, the P20 Pro model was termed the Camera Pro for its amazing photography capabilities. Similarly, the P20 Plus was also rumored to be a great addition to the lineup with features better than the base model and is a close match to the Pro. Let’s check out our Huawei P20 Plus review and try to get a feel of this device.

Design

The P20 Plus followed the standard design language that Huawei used across the P20 lineup. The renders showed a vertical triple-camera setup on the back, with a fingerprint sensor underneath. On the front, it featured a 6” bezel-less display that made for an attractive design and also offered lots of screen real estate for watching videos. There were standard buttons and ports in the design.

Display

The phone featured a 6” IPS LCD display with 1440 x 2560 pixels and 490ppi pixel density. With an aspect ratio of 18:9, you could expect an immersive viewing experience. The display sported 16M colors. Regardless of the content, the display really brought it to life.

Cameras

The renders that came with the P20 showed the phone would have a vertical triple camera array at the back. These cameras included a 12mp camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a couple of 16mp snappers. Camera features like phase detection autofocus, LED flash, and 2x lossless zoom really made it an impressive choice for photographers. The selfie camera was an 8mp shooter with an f/2.0 aperture.

Both the front and the back cameras were good enough to capture great-looking photos and offered decent video recording capabilities too. Though not as good a camera setup as you’d find on the P20 Pro, it did the job it was meant for.

Performance

Huawei phones are known for their flawless performance, and the performance features on the P20 Plus paved for that. The phone had an Octa-core Kirin 970 processor chip that was accompanied by a Mali-G72 MP12 GPU and 6 or 8 GB of RAM to ensure awesome, lag-free performance overall. Whether you’re watching videos, browsing different websites, or playing graphics-intense video games on your Huawei P20 Plus, you shouldn’t experience any performance issues.

Battery Life

The handset was destined to feature a 4000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery that makes one of the biggest batteries among the competing devices. It would give you hours of backup to play demanding video games, watch movies, listen to songs, and enjoy a lot of other stuff longer than you’d imagine. You could also charge your P20 Plus wirelessly.

Overall, it’s a decent device and made quite a few headlines when it was set to release. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to the Huawei P20 Pro, the P20 Plus might be the way to go.
