Huawei P20 Lite 64GB Review – A Budget Phone With A Few Impressive Specs Of The P20 Devices

Huawei introduced the P20 Lite phone as the cheapest model in the P20 lineup. It’s a good mid-range phone with an impressive 80% screen-to-body ratio. The lightweight device looks pretty elegant and is very much like the expensive P20 devices. It also offers facial recognition features to unlock the device, something you don’t often get with mid-range devices. In fact, there’s a lot more that you’d like about this budget-friendly phone. Let’s have a detailed Huawei P20 Lite review and check out what else is on offer.

Design

The Huawei P20 Lite boasts an elegant design, featuring rounded edges and a small notch at the top. The notch houses the front camera, a light sensor, and a speaker. It’s a compact phone with a glass rear that shows fingerprint traces at some angles. The back of the phone also hosts the protruding rear camera setup and a fingerprint scanner.

The sides of the phone boast a metal rim with a matte finish. It has metal hardware controls on the right, with the volume rocker placed just above the power button. At the bottom of the phone, you’ll find a headphone jack, a USB-C port, and a speaker.

Display

Even though it’s a small phone, the P20 Lite features a 5.84” IPS LCD display. The edge-to-edge display offers an unorthodox 19:9 aspect ratio. Its 1080x2280 resolution brings in a lot of sharpness, making it good enough for almost all types of tasks. The colors are good, and it is very energy-efficient.

Cameras

The P20 Lite features a dual-camera setup on its rear. It includes a 16MP primary lens and a 2MP secondary camera. The secondary lens basically assists the main camera with additional depth information, mostly in the wide aperture mode. This mode allows you to adjust the bokeh effect setting as you like.

The dual-camera setup gives you some nice shots in broad daylight, ensuring bright colors. When you zoom in, however, the pictures lose details, but the result still looks decent.

On the front, the P20 Lite offers a 16MP lens that gives you surprisingly amazing selfies. You might feel like the backgrounds are a bit overexposed, but that’s not something that anyone would bother about.

Performance

The handset is powered by a Kirin 659 chipset that runs Android 8.0 quite smoothly, particularly when paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There aren’t any noticeable stutters in day-to-day usage, and the apps boot up smoothly. It’s not a phone for gaming geeks, though.

Battery Life

The Huawei P20 Lite features a 3000mAh battery – a normal spec for a mid-range phone. For light usage, it will take you well into the second day. If you’re a moderate user, you can expect it to last by bedtime and still have some juice left behind. It won’t drain out too quickly, even with 3D gaming.

Huawei P20 Lite is a good handset overall, a decent pick among the mid-range devices. It adopts some of the high-end specs of its siblings and offers value for money. However, there are some areas where it lags behind, and quite understandably, because it’s a budget phone.
