Huawei Mate 20 Lite Review – A Stylish Handset That May Lack A Little In Value

The Huawei Mate 20 Lite was introduced by the manufacturer as a cheaper cousin of the higher-end Mate 20. The handset made a few headlines with its decent battery life, solid camera performance, and sharp-looking design. It made a good pick for anyone looking for high-end style while ensuring they stick to a budget. The handset may be stylish to look at, but it did lack somewhat in the value on offer. Let’s have a detailed review of the Huawei Mater 20 Lite and explore its features.

Design

The handset looks sleek like any other flagship and resembles the iPhone X courtesy of its curvy metal frame with a glass surface on either side.

The rear of the device is home to a dual camera setup that protrudes from the surface by almost 1mm. There are subtle lines beneath the glass that highlight the camera area, giving it a chic look. The fingerprint sensor sits right under the rear camera.

The front of the device features an edge-to-edge display. The volume rocker and the power button are positioned on its right edge. The bottom edge is home to a single speaker grille, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Display

The Mate 20 Lite features a 6.3” LCD screen with a 1080 x 2340 resolution, an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, and a fairly wide, deep notch. It’s an IPS display offering vivid colors with reasonable accuracy. You can even choose between vivid and normal color options. The brightness is good enough for outdoor use, and the contrast is just fine.

Cameras

The handset comes with a dual camera setup, both at the front and back. The rear cameras include a 20mp main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 2mp secondary camera.

The selfie camera is an ultra-high resolution 24mp snapper with an f/2.0 aperture. It is also assisted by a 2mp secondary camera.

You can expect great images in broad daylight. The selfie camera performs wonderfully too, even in low light, near-blackout conditions. The pictures don’t lose detail and look great.

Performance

The Huawei Mate 20 Lite comes with a Kirin 710 processor at its core. Honestly, it’s not a spectacular chipset, but a mid-range model that comes with four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. Nevertheless, it’s competent at handling routine tasks and does a fine job. The 4GB of RAM plays a part in achieving that decent performance.

The Mali-G51 MP4 GPU allows you to play most of the games on your Mate 20 Lite without much trouble. However, you won’t be able to play games using the highest settings.

The overall performance is not terrible, but it gives you a slight stutter or lag here and there. Otherwise, it’s pretty good.

Battery Life

The handset features a bigger battery to power a bigger display. It’s a 3750mAh cell, fairly bigger than 3000mAh batteries that come in similar devices. Battery life is great, as even on days of fairly high usage, you’ll have a little over 40% juice left by bedtime.

The Huawei Mate 20 Lite is a solid mid-range Android phone that will last long. Even though it gets solid competition, you can expect it to serve well enough, considering its mid-range price tag.
