Blackberry Curve 8520 Review – An Old Handset With Some Worthy Features

Blackberry Curve 8520 is the most affordable QWERTY phone from Blackberry, and it still makes a perfect choice for business professionals looking for a budget-friendly option even today. Being an entry-level device, the Blackberry Curve 8520 may not offer the same experience you get with Curve 8900 as it lacks some key features like GPS, a high-resolution screen, etc. Still, it gives you a great overall experience and comes with all the core features. Want to have a detailed look into this QWERTY phone? Let’s have a Blackberry Curve 8520 review.

Design

There are some notable design elements that set Blackberry Curve 8520 apart. Overall, however, it looks similar to the older Curve 8900 model. It boasts the same 4.3” x 2.3” dimensions with 0.5” thickness. It has a bit of a plasticky feel to it and is also slightly lighter weighing 3.7 ounces.

Display

Being a lower-end device, Curve 8520 does not have a high-resolution display to offer. It comes with a 2.46” TFT display with 65000 colors shown at a low 320x240px resolution. So, you can expect it to be not too sharp while the text and images are not too smooth either. Still, overall, you get a bright and clear screen. Screen brightness, backlight time, font size, and theme are all adjustable from the Settings.

Camera

You might be disappointed a little from the camera of your Blackberry Curve 8520 as it comes only with a 2mp camera that doesn’t focus too much on detail in its shots. However, if the photos are captured outdoors in good light settings, you can expect decent results. The camera also lacks autofocus or flash and struggles with indoor shots. It can also capture videos with a 320x240 resolution but don’t expect great results here either. It supports MPEG4, WMV3, H.263, and H.264 formats for video.

Messaging

BlackBerry phones always come with great messaging features and that hasn’t changed with the Curve 8520 either. You can easily set up your device for receiving push emails from your existing account through the BlackBerry web service. There is excellent instant messaging support available as well with Google Talk, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, and Windows Live Messenger are available. Even better, it also gives you access to a Twitter app that comes preloaded, and you may also download some extras for Myspace and Facebook for free through the Blackberry App Store.

Connectivity

You can expect kind of a mixed experience with connectivity too. The phone offers Wi-Fi access for super-fast web browsing from the comfort of your home or when some hotspot is accessible. Bluetooth is also there for stereo headsets and car kits. What you may not like, however, is that the phone lacks support for 3G and GPS. You may not notice that your phone lacks 3G when you’re working with your emails as the gap is bridged by the clever compression tech used by the manufacturer. But when it comes to web browsing on your EDGE network, a pathetic experience awaits you.

Battery

It comes with a 1150mAh lithium-ion battery that is rated to offer 4.5 hrs of talk time as well as 17 days standby.

So, if you are looking for a bargain, and want to buy a good business phone, the Blackberry Curve 8520 won’t disappoint you. Grab the best deals at Bulk Mobiles today!
